What is TIVO?

Tivo is a brand of video recorder very popular among the people in united states during the late eighties... using these machine you can record tv programmes directly while on telecast and store them in your hard disc for future view. The functionality of a tvr are very much similar to a VCR but the difference lies in the fact that tvr has a permanent memory and cannot be removed. Unlike the traditional VCR you can play previously recorded video while recording newer ones. Programs may be stored until internal storage is filled, at which time the unit will dispose of older programs (unless flagged to be saved until manually deleted), to allow for new programs to be recorded.

While this ability can be crudely approximated by using multiple VCRs (for programs on different tapes), a Tivo DVR can also play a partial program while it is still being recorded, a feat which is impossible to accomplish with traditional VCRs. This feature allows a program to be viewed (in its entirety) without waiting for the recording to finish first. Normally sometimes it happens that people start seeing a program after fifteen minutes so that to escape the initial commercials. when you are not making recordings the tivo automatically stores live running program as buffer which normally is about 30 min in length and you can watch them if you had missed something for example a great goal during a foot ball match. Another very special function of tivo is that it looks at peoples preferences and gives customized suggestions. The problem with tivo however is that it is not available around the world. Tivo service is very limited. It’s only available to customers in United States, Canada and Australia. Due to this limited availability it does not has a universal appeal and that’s one of the prime disadvantages of using tivo. Another problem is that tivo has constantly been heckled by hackers as the software has less security features and is very prone to hacking.
