What is Direct
Television?
Direct television is a type of
satellite television transmission in which television signals
are received transmitted directly to your home from over head
satellites without depending upon local cable operators. The
underlying principle behind direct television is not much
different from that of cable television. Both broadcast
signals using a powerful antenna using radio waves .however
the problem with normal cable antenna is that the radio
signals used to broadcast television shoot out from the
broadcast antenna in a straight line. In order to receive
these signals, you have to be in the direct "line of sight" of
the antenna. Small obstacles like trees or small buildings
aren't a problem; but a big obstacle, such as the Earth, will
reflect these radio waves. That is why a cable TV antenna has
a very limited range. However in a satellite television the
signals are sent to a satellite which is then reflected back
to a receiver.
Direct satellites normally use
eighteen inch diameter satellite signal reception dishes.
However the size of the dishes has increased in order to feed
in more channels nowadays.
Particularly local television network affiliate stations, as
well as HDTV programming.
The best thing about dish television is that it gives you
digital quality sound and picture quality. Also there is a
myth among people that direct television does not offer local
channels but it is in fact very wrong. Also in many places
which are far away from the cities direct television is the
only option because no cable network reaches that particular
place.
Hence direst television solves the problems of range and
distortion by transmitting broadcast signals from satellites
orbiting the Earth. Since satellites are high in the sky,
there are a lot more customers in the line of site and a far
more transmission range of direct television.
